In my previous role as a Junior Natural Resource Manager, I had the opportunity to analyze data and draw meaningful conclusions from it. One project that stands out is when I was tasked with conducting a field survey to collect data on wildlife populations in a local forest area. I spent weeks in the field, setting up camera traps and conducting bird surveys to gather information on the diversity and abundance of species. Once the data was collected, I used GIS software to analyze the spatial distribution of the wildlife populations and identify any potential trends or patterns. From this analysis, I was able to draw conclusions about habitat preferences, seasonal variations, and potential threats to the wildlife in the area. This information was then used to inform conservation efforts and guide the development of a resource management plan for the forest. Overall, this experience allowed me to apply my skills in data analysis and draw meaningful conclusions to support natural resource management.

To collect the data, we performed multiple surveys, including point count surveys, nest surveys, and mist-netting to capture and tag birds for further monitoring. The collected data was meticulously organized and analyzed using advanced statistical techniques, such as occupancy modeling and species distribution modeling, to determine the effect of logging on bird species richness and abundance. Our findings revealed a significant decline in certain bird species due to habitat loss and fragmentation caused by logging activities. I collaborated closely with senior staff and presented our findings in a scientific conference, contributing to local policy changes and the development of more sustainable logging practices.
