Describe a time when you faced an environmental, health, or safety issue in the manufacturing environment. How did you handle it?

In my previous role as a Biotech Manufacturing Engineer, I encountered an environmental issue in the manufacturing environment. We were working on a project to develop a new bioprocess for a pharmaceutical product. During the scale-up phase, we noticed that the waste generated from the process was not being disposed of properly, which posed a risk to both the environment and the health of our employees. To address this issue, I immediately formed a cross-functional team comprising of representatives from manufacturing, environmental health and safety, and waste management. We conducted a thorough assessment of the waste management practices and identified areas of improvement. We implemented a new waste disposal system that ensured proper segregation, containment, and disposal of the waste. Additionally, I collaborated with the environmental health and safety team to conduct training sessions for all employees on the importance of proper waste management. This initiative not only resolved the environmental and safety concerns but also improved the overall efficiency of the manufacturing process.
