During my time working as a Waste Collection Specialist, I identified a route efficiency improvement that would greatly reduce travel time and fuel consumption. I noticed that one of our regular collection routes had a long detour that was no longer necessary due to a recent road construction project. I brought this to the attention of my team during one of our weekly meetings. We collaboratively discussed the issue and agreed that updating the route would be beneficial. I took the initiative to map out the new route using a GPS system, taking into consideration factors such as traffic patterns and collection sites. After presenting the plan to my supervisor, they approved the updated route. We implemented the changes immediately, resulting in significant time and fuel savings. Our team was able to complete collections more efficiently, allowing us to allocate resources to other areas that needed attention.
